TYPES OF SANDERS
In most situations you will need two sanders – the main floor sander and an edging sander. The main floor sander will do most of the work; the edging sander is needed for sanding up to the skirting boards.Different types of floors require different machines. Contact us and we will recommend the correct machines for the job.We hire these machines individually or at discounted cost for hiring the two together.
-
REMOVE ALL YOUR FURNITURE
Before you start work, you must remove all the furniture from the room and although our sanders are fitted with dust extractors, some residual dust will enter the atmosphere, therefore we strongly advise you to remove any objects that will be affected by dust. These include curtains, books, ornaments etc.
-
TYPES OF SANDING SHEETS
We will advise you regarding the types and quantity of sanding sheets you will need.We offer these on a sale or return basis, so remember to bring back all the unused sheets.
-
FLAT SMOOTH FINISH
You must aim to have a flat, smooth finish. High spots will attract dirt and be difficult to clean. They will also wear faster than the rest of the floor.
-
FILL THE GAPS
It is important to fill the gaps between the floorboards on all ground floors. It is less important for upstairs floors as cold air circulates below the house. We stock a specialist filler which when mixed with sawdust provides an excellent colour match.
-
COUNTERSINK NAILHEADS
If you are sanding old floor boards, it is essential to countersink the nailheads to avoid tearing sandpaper or damaging the
machines.Nail punches sold here!’ -
DURABILITY AND SAFETY
All our equipment is carefully selected for ease of use, durability and safety. Floor sanders are powerful machines and should
always be handled with extreme care. We will offer you verbal and written instructions before we leave the equipment with you. Please make sure that you read and understand all of these instructions. If you have any doubts, stop using the sander, switch it off from the mains and get in touch with us immediately. -
DUST SUPPRESSION
Although our sanders are fitted with dust suppression facilities, there will be some residual dust. Work with open windows and
make sure you wear a recommended dust mask. Empty the dust collector regularly and don’t wait until it is full.Try to make sure that dust from the open window does not enter any adjoining properties. The equipment will also create some noise, wear accredited ear defenders and try to avoid working when your neighbours are resting. -
BOOK IN ADVANCE
Demand for our floor sanders is increasing; we would encourage you to book well in advance. It is rare that we have them
available ‘off the shelf’ at weekends or Bank Holidays.
